Traineeship

As a Yacht Skipper Trainee you will become a valued member of the Global Yacht Racing team and will be working alongside our team of professionals. You will be expected to play a part in in the team, dealing with charter clients, suppliers and other contractors, gaining valuable experience along the way.

Overview

You will sail on professionally-maintained race yachts, be coached by friendly, patient skippers and experience exhilarating yacht racing on race winning yachts.

Experience yacht racing in some of the world’s most beautiful sailing waters while gaining real-world experience and your RYA Yachtmaster Off­shore

What’s included

The courses are all ‘residential’ so accommodation is provided. You will divide your time between living on-board or ashore as part of your programme.

During offshore racing and sailing all food and drink on-board the yacht is included.

During day regatta-racing lunch is included.

In between events you will need to cover your own living costs but all yacht costs such as marina berthing fees, fuel, water and gas is covered plus of course your berth aboard one of the yachts.

Who else will be on board?

The race crew during regattas will be teams and individual customers of Global Yacht Racing. The crew is made up of like-minded people who enjoy yacht racing. In between regattas and during the delivery cruises between islands you will be on-board with GYR skippers and trainees and sometimes other crew who have signed up to join those passages.

Prerequisites
Our Traineeships are for any level of experience. If you have never sailed before we recommend a minimum of RYA Competent Crew level is gained prior to starting Additionally, we recommend you have your ENG 1 Medical before you join the course

The Yachts
You will sail on a variety of yachts owned by GYR including a J120, a Beneteau 47.7 and a Grand Soleil 43’s.

All the yachts are commercially operated, MCA Coded and professionally maintained with comfortable interiors. They also have a fantastic pedigree of race results and boast up to date electronic navigation equipment and sail wardrobes

 

The Yachts
